New Delhi: In a move to safeguard the nation’s Power infrastructure from cyber threats, Union Minister Manohar Lal inaugurated the Computer Security Incident Response Team- POWER (CSIRT- POWER) in New Delhi. The facility will aim to address the specific cyber security issues faced by the Power sector in India.
The primary objectives of the facility are:
To serve as an agency for responding to and preventing security issues within the Power sector.
To ensure a prompt and well-coordinated response to cyber threats in the sector.
To collect, analyze, and share information regarding power-sector-specific cyber threats.
To implement proactive measures in order to raise cyber security awareness in the power sector.
To promote best practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and security policies in the sector.
To build capacity in the domain through measures like training, development of standards, and incident response drills in collaboration with educational institutions and industry experts.
The initiative is in line with the Government’s National Cyber Security Policy, 2013 which requires the establishment of sector-specific CERTs to strengthen sectoral cyber security efforts.
