New Delhi: In a significant move to enhance global trade cooperation, India has signed a Supply Chain Resilience Agreement (SCRA) under the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). The agreement, signed with the United States as Chair and India as Vice Chair, aims to strengthen and diversify supply chains in the Indo-Pacific region, ensuring their resilience against disruptions.
The signing took place during the IPEF Ministerial meeting, with member nations reaffirming their commitment to fostering a secure and sustainable trade ecosystem.
In particular, the agreement focuses on the following dimensions:
- It addresses key challenges in global supply chains, focusing on reducing vulnerabilities and promoting transparency.
- It encourages private sector engagement for improving the resilience, efficiency, productivity, sustainability, and inclusivity of IPEF supply chains.
- It provides for the identification of critical sectors by the IPEF partners for ensuring national security, public health and safety, and prevention of significant economic disruptions.
Jitin Prasada, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, highlighted the importance of this agreement in bolstering the nation’s trade resilience while advancing its goals of sustainable economic growth. He emphasized that the agreement aligns with India’s vision of becoming a global manufacturing hub by fostering robust and adaptive supply chain networks.
India’s leadership role as Vice Chair reflects its growing influence in the global economic landscape and its strategic importance in the Indo-Pacific. The agreement emphasizes collaboration among member nations to identify and mitigate supply chain risks, improve logistics efficiency, and build infrastructure that supports reliable trade flows.
This development marks a key milestone in Indo-Pacific trade relations, further solidifying partnerships aimed at economic security and resilience. The agreement is expected to facilitate stronger economic ties, create opportunities for innovation, and safeguard global supply chains in an increasingly interconnected world.
