Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has appointed retired IAS officer Madhusudan Padhi as the State Election Commissioner of Odisha. The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department announced the appointment, which is in accordance with Article 243-K of the Constitution of India.
Madhusudan, a 1991-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, succeeds retired IAS officer Aditya Prasad Padhi, a 1983-batch officer. His appointment comes as the state prepares for the Panchayat and urban elections scheduled for 2027. Throughout his distinguished career, Madhusudan held several significant positions in the Odisha government. He served as Managing Director of OMFED, Principal Secretary of the Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare, and Transport Commissioner. Additionally, he was the Principal Secretary of the Electronics and Information Technology (E&IT) Department. In the final phase of his career, Madhusudan was promoted to the rank of Chief Secretary, underscoring his exemplary contributions to state administration. He retired from service in October 2022.
With his extensive administrative experience, Madhusudan is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the upcoming elections and strengthening the electoral process in Odisha.
