New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, in a bold move to reshape the employment dynamics, has announced a large-scale ‘Work From Home’ initiative, with a particular focus on empowering women professionals

The announcement, made on social media, comes in conjunction with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, underlining the state’s commitment to fostering equal opportunities in the workforce.

CM Naidu began by extending his greetings to women in STEM fields, celebrating their achievements and emphasizing the need for inclusive growth. He highlighted how the COVID-19 pandemic catalyzed a shift in work culture, accelerating the adoption of remote work, coworking spaces (CWS), and Neighbourhood Workspaces (NWS).

According to the CM, these flexible work models have the potential to benefit both businesses and employees by increasing efficiency, productivity, and work-life balance.

The initiative is part of the Andhra Pradesh IT & GCC Policy 4.0, which aims to revolutionize the state’s IT and business landscape. The government is offering incentives to developers to create IT office spaces in every city, town, and mandal, while also supporting IT and Global Capability Centre (GCC) firms to generate employment at the grassroots level.

Andhra Pradesh is planning “Work From Home” in a big way, especially for women.

The emphasis on hybrid and remote work models is expected to particularly benefit women professionals, who often face challenges in balancing work and household responsibilities.

Naidu expressed confidence that these initiatives will boost workforce participation among women and drive meaningful change in Andhra Pradesh’s employment sector.

He stated that the state is keen on leveraging available technology to create a flexible, inclusive, and progressive work environment.

After this announcement, Alay Razvi, Managing Partner at Accord Juris, commended the move, stating that Andhra Pradesh’s push for large-scale remote work “is a forward-thinking move that could redefine employment dynamics in the state.”

He pointed out that this initiative would allow more women to enter the workforce without being constrained by traditional barriers such as daily commuting.

Razvi further noted that enabling women to work remotely could unlock a vast talent pool across rural and semi-urban areas, contributing to the state’s economic growth. However, he also emphasized the need to address challenges such as digital accessibility, work-life balance, and employer readiness for hybrid work models.

Razvi stated: “Andhra Pradesh’s push for ‘Work From Home’ on a large scale, particularly for women, is a forward-thinking move that could redefine employment dynamics in the state. This will enable more women to participate in the State’s economy without any traditional constraints such as commuting from home to the workplace. It also unlocks a vast talent pool for women who can work from remote areas.”

“While the government has initiated this, they will need to overcome challenges such as digital accessibility, work-life balance and employer readiness to embrace hybrid models. If this works, Andhra Pradesh will set a benchmark for other states to modernize employment strategies which will grow the economy and be sustainable,” he added.

This announcement arrives amidst the ongoing debate about office working hours. The statements for longer working days or working hours by prominent figures like Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy and L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan have sparked controversy and social media criticism in recent times.

However, with this initiative, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself at the forefront of employment innovation, paving the way for a more inclusive and technologically driven future in the workplace.
