Visakhapatnam: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) to set up a 250-bed patient accommodation facility in Visakhapatnam. The initiative aims to support cancer patients and their families who travel to the city for treatment.
Addressing Accommodation Challenges for Patients
Cancer treatment often requires patients to stay in cities with specialized medical facilities, posing financial and logistical challenges. The new facility in Visakhapatnam, classified as an Aspirational District, is expected to offer affordable lodging and ease the burden on families seeking treatment at TMC’s hospital in the city.
The agreement was formalized with the exchange of the MoU between BPCL’s Director of Finance, Shri VRK Gupta, and TMC-HBCH&RC Visakhapatnam’s Director, Dr. Umesh Mahantshetty. The event was attended by key officials, including BPCL’s General Manager of Admin Services, Facilities & CSR, Shri Raman Malik, and Head of HRS South, Shri Susmit Das, along with representatives from BPCL’s CSR and administration teams.
CSR in Healthcare Infrastructure
Public sector enterprises have been expanding their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in healthcare. BPCL’s collaboration with TMC aligns with efforts to enhance medical infrastructure and patient support systems. While TMC operates several cancer hospitals in India, additional infrastructure like patient accommodations remains crucial for those traveling long distances for treatment.
The project’s timeline and operational details are yet to be announced, but the initiative marks a step toward addressing a critical gap in patient care.
