Kolkata: The Railway authorities have conducted a crucial survey of the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system for the Kolkata Metro Railway’s Purple line.
This was a mandatory measure to check the preparedness of the Purple Line connectivity as it is now scheduled to be extended beyond Joka to Majherhat.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety inspected key infrastructure at Joka depot including car shed, rolling stock and maintenance facilities.
The metro operations along the line from Joka to Majherhat were also inspected for driverless semi-autonomous services. The Operation Control Center was also extensively reviewed.
The fully operational Joka-Majherhat track with extension towards Esplanade and BBD Bagh will integrate this corridor into the city’s broader metro network, leading to a superior connectivity network across cities.
Following the CBTC signalling inspection, the final approval process is now awaited before the Purple Line becomes fully functional.
