Guwahati: The Assam Government has launched the women entrepreneurship support scheme, Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, to boost self-employment opportunities for females in the state.
Through this women entrepreneurship scheme, the Assam Government will provide Rs 10,000 as seed capital in the first year. This will be followed by a grant of Rs 25,000 (Rs 12,500 loan and Rs 12,500 government support) in the second year on meaningful usage of the seed capital.
A similar inspection will follow another grant of Rs 50,000 in the third year.
The program was launched by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswas Sarma at Behali in the Biswanath district.
A total of 23,375 women received their first cheques, with most of these potential rural entrepreneurs focusing on agriculture, livestock and micro-enterprises.
The scheme will be rolled out across the state in phases and is expected to benefit 30 lakh women. The move is expected to catalyze micro-level entrepreneurship in the state.
