New Delhi: Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), a joint venture of GAIL, BPCL, and the Government of NCT Delhi, has announced plans to set up a 500 MWp solar power plant in Rajasthan. The project, undertaken in collaboration with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL), aims to bolster India’s renewable energy sector and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
According to an exchange filing, IGL’s Board approved the project in its meeting on March 29, 2025. The company will invest approximately Rs. 382 crore in equity for the venture. Under the agreed shareholding structure, IGL will hold a 74% stake in the joint venture, while RVUNL will own the remaining 26%.
The solar plant will be developed within RVUNL’s upcoming solar park in Bikaner, with the state-run power company facilitating power transmission from the facility. This initiative aligns with IGL’s broader strategy to diversify into renewable energy and contribute to India’s clean energy goals. The partnership marks a significant step toward sustainable power generation in Rajasthan, leveraging the state’s high solar potential to enhance the country’s green energy capacity.
