Kharagpur: IIT Kharagpur is launching an artificial intelligence-powered emotional health monitoring tool for students.
The tool is a part of the SETU – Support, Empathy, Transformation and Upliftment program.
This tool is part of IIT Kharagpur’s new mental health and student welfare program. It has been developed by in-house experts and a consultancy tech firm.
This becomes extremely critical in the wake of a spate of student suicides inside the campus hostel. More than five students have committed suicide in the last two years.
This AI-powered tool will enable anonymous self-check-ins and early alert systems.
The SETU program will also involve professional care by psychologists, psychiatrists and counsellors. It will also focus on peer empowerment and community boning to address student well-being.
SETU will be rolled out as a pilot project at IIT Kharagpur and will serve as a national model for other IITs.
