New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved two major infrastructure projects worth Rs 9,814 crore, marking a significant push towards regional connectivity and industrial growth.
The clearances from the Union Cabinet include the development of a greenfield airport at Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan and the construction of a six-lane Capital Region Ring Road in Odisha.
The Kota-Bundi airport, estimated at Rs 1,507 crore, will be built by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on 440 hectares of land provided by the Rajasthan government.
Designed with a 3,200-metre runway, seven aircraft bays and a 20,000-square-metre terminal, the facility will handle up to two million passengers annually. Capable of operating A-321 aircraft and catering to cargo, the new airport is expected to bolster Kota’s industrial base and replace the existing, capacity-constrained airport. The project is targeted for completion within two years.
The second approval covers the Rs 8,307 crore Capital Region Ring Road in Odisha, a 110.9-km, six-lane access-controlled corridor to be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model.
Aimed at easing congestion on the Rameshwar-Tangi stretch through Khordha, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the project will connect three national highways and a state highway. It will link 10 economic hubs, including a Special Economic Zone, a mega food park, and textile and pharmaceutical clusters, alongside four social nodes in aspirational and tribal districts.
The development is projected to generate nearly 1.7 crore person-days of employment.
These initiatives are part of the government’s broader infrastructure strategy, with total Cabinet-approved projects now crossing Rs 10.74 trillion.
Covering sectors such as airports, ports, highways, railways, metros, industrial smart cities, housing, hydroelectric power and ropeways, the investments aim to create new opportunities for the youth and middle class while ensuring balanced growth across regions.
