Noida: The Noida International Airport in Jewar will be inaugurated on October 30, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu announced on Wednesday. The airport, located about 75 km from Delhi in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, is expected to begin flight operations within 45 days of the opening.
This will be the second international airport in the National Capital Region (NCR) after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Naidu, speaking at Hindon airport in Ghaziabad, said discussions with airlines indicate that at least 10 cities will be connected in the first phase. He also highlighted the airport’s potential as a strategic hub for cargo operations in addition to passenger traffic.
The project is being developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. The first phase of construction spans 1,300 hectares and includes a single runway and terminal with the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually. Officials said the airport will eventually be expanded across 5,000 hectares in four phases, with at least two runways and a projected annual capacity of 70 million passengers.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also confirmed the airport’s opening by the end of the year while reviewing infrastructure developments in the state. He pointed to the expansion of airports in recent years, noting that Uttar Pradesh now has 16 fully operational airports compared with four in 2017.
The Noida International Airport has been positioned as a major infrastructure project for western Uttar Pradesh and NCR, with its dual focus on passenger and cargo operations expected to ease pressure on Delhi’s airport and strengthen regional connectivity.
