New Delhi: Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics & Information Technology Jitin Prasada dedicated the new Aadhaar App to the nation, calling it a major step in strengthening citizen-centric digital identity services.
Developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the next-generation mobile application enables Aadhaar number holders to securely carry, share and verify their digital identity while prioritising privacy, consent and user control. Prasada said Aadhaar continues to be a flagship of digital governance, adding that the new app will make service delivery faster and more seamless.
MeitY Secretary S Krishan said the application promotes data minimisation, enhanced security and selective sharing of personal information. Designed for ease of use, the app supports multiple real-life use cases such as hotel check-ins through QR code-based offline verification, age verification for cinema tickets, hospital admissions and verification of gig workers.
The app also offers features including optional face verification, biometric lock and unlock, access to authentication history and a QR-based digital contact card, further expanding Aadhaar’s role in everyday digital interactions.
