New Delhi, Apr 4 (APAC Media): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced the Air Pollution Mitigation Action Plan 2026, introducing stringent measures to combat rising pollution levels in the capital.
A key highlight is the strict enforcement of the “No PUC, No Fuel” rule, supported by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and digital tracking systems.
From November 1, only Bharat Stage (BS)-VI compliant, CNG, or electric goods vehicles will be allowed entry into Delhi. The government may also impose staggered office timings and work-from-home mandates during severe pollution episodes.
Push for Cleaner Transport and Infrastructure
To reduce vehicular emissions, the city’s bus fleet will expand to 13,760 by 2028-29, with a strong focus on electric buses. Additionally, 32,000 EV charging points will be installed over the next four years.
The upcoming EV Policy 2026 will prioritise cleaner mobility, including two-wheelers and commercial vehicles. Efforts are also underway to improve last-mile connectivity through better integration of metro and Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) networks with feeder services.
Dust and Construction Pollution Under Watch
Recognising road dust as a major contributor, authorities will deploy mechanical sweepers, water sprinklers, and anti-smog guns, monitored via GPS and central dashboards. Around 3,500 km of roads will be redeveloped with paved surfaces and green buffers. Construction activities will be tracked through an AI-enabled C&D Portal 2.0 for real-time monitoring and enforcement.
Waste Management and Green Initiatives
The government has set deadlines to clear major landfill sites—Okhla by July 2026, Bhalswa by December 2026, and Ghazipur by December 2027. A target of planting 70 lakh trees in 2026-27 has also been announced, with a long-term goal of over one crore plantations.
Strengthening Governance and Public Participation
A centralised Green War Room and Integrated Command Centre will be established, alongside ward-level “Vayu Rakshak” teams. Enhanced citizen engagement through the 311 platform and collaboration with research institutions is expected to ensure effective implementation.
