New Delhi, June 23 (APAC Media): In a move aimed at improving language accessibility in the digital ecosystem, the Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Assam Innovation & Startup Foundation (AISF).
AISF is a Section 8 company operating under the Government of Assam’s Department of Innovation, Incubation and Start-ups (DIIS).
BHASHINI Rajyam
The collaboration seeks to combine language technologies, artificial intelligence, and multilingual digital solutions with Assam’s growing startup ecosystem. The aim is to strengthen innovation capabilities and ensure greater access to digital services for citizens.Â
At the heart of the partnership is the BHASHINI Rajyam initiative, through which both organisations will work together to integrate BHASHINI’s language translation APIs into government platforms and public services.
The initiative is expected to support the development of translation services in Assamese and other regional languages, encourage the creation of voice-enabled applications, and facilitate the collection of linguistic data through Bhashadaan, BHASHINI’s crowdsourced language data platform.
Boosting Assam’s Startup Ecosystem
A key focus of the agreement is to support startups, innovators, researchers, and academic institutions across Assam.
By leveraging BHASHINI’s language technology stack, stakeholders will be able to build multilingual AI-based applications tailored to regional needs.Â
The partnership aims to encourage wider adoption of language AI solutions across sectors, creating new opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship in the state.
Officials believe that increased usage of such technologies can help accelerate the development of locally relevant digital solutions while strengthening Assam’s innovation ecosystem.
Roles and Responsibilities
Under the agreement, DIBD will provide AI-powered translation capabilities for government services, develop language models that account for regional dialects and linguistic variations, and offer technical support and training for integrating BHASHINI APIs.
AISF will assist by identifying local language requirements, prioritising translation needs, and facilitating collaboration between startups, research institutions, and other stakeholders.
Towards a More Inclusive Digital Future
Speaking on the partnership, Amitabh Nag, CEO of the Digital India BHASHINI Division, said the organisation’s vision is to ensure that language does not become a barrier to participation in India’s digital transformation.
He noted that the collaboration with AISF would enable startups and innovators to create impactful multilingual AI solutions that address local challenges while strengthening India’s language technology ecosystem.
