Lucknow, June 9 (APAC Media): In a major push for digital inclusion, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched Project Ganga (Government Assisted Network for Growth and Advancement).
It is an ambitious initiative aimed at bringing high-speed internet to rural and semi-urban areas.
The project seeks to expand broadband connectivity, promote digital entrepreneurship and strengthen access to essential online services across the state.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath formally launched Project Ganga from his official residence in Lucknow.
He highlighted the role of broadband connectivity in driving economic growth and improving access to essential services.
Project Ganga Aims to Bridge the Digital Divide
Project Ganga is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader vision of Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. It will expand access to both government and private digital services.
Through this initiative, the government aims to strengthen digital infrastructure in rural areas and encourage entrepreneurship among youth and women.
According to the state government, high-speed internet has become a basic necessity, with better connectivity playing a key role in improving education, healthcare, governance and business opportunities.
Project Ganga to Bring High-Speed Internet to 20 Lakh Homes
Under Project Ganga, the Uttar Pradesh government plans to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to around 20 lakh rural and semi-urban households over the next two to three years.
The first phase will cover border and underserved districts such as Shravasti, Bahraich and Balrampur. The project will then be expanded to other parts of the state.
Besides improving connectivity, the initiative will make digital services more accessible. These include telemedicine, online education, e-governance and e-commerce.
As a result, people in rural areas are expected to gain easier access to healthcare, learning and business opportunities.
Project Ganga to Create Jobs and Empower Women
Besides improving internet access, Project Ganga aims to generate more than one lakh direct and indirect jobs.
According to the government, nearly half of these opportunities are expected to go to women.
The initiative also seeks to turn local youth and women into digital entrepreneurs. In turn, this is expected to strengthen self-employment and create new livelihood opportunities in rural areas.
Public-Private Partnership to Drive Project Ganga
Project Ganga is being implemented jointly by the Uttar Pradesh Transformation Commission and the state’s IT and Electronics Department.
OneOTT Entertainment Ltd, a Hinduja Group company, is also part of the initiative.
Under the plan, digital service providers will be selected and trained at the Nyay Panchayat level.
They will be responsible for broadband installation and maintenance, customer support, billing and grievance redressal.
Financial Support for Local Entrepreneurs
To encourage entrepreneurship, selected service providers will be linked to the Chief Minister Yuva Udyami Yojana. This will help them access loans and set up digital service centres in their areas.
These centres are expected to function as local digital hubs, bringing essential services closer to people living in remote regions.
Officials believe Project Ganga will help bridge the gap between urban and rural areas.
It is also expected to improve access to online education and healthcare, boost e-commerce and create new livelihood opportunities.
