Patna, July 31 (APAC Media): In a major governance push aimed at strengthening public welfare, urban infrastructure, employment and rural development, the Bihar Cabinet has approved a series of decisions ranging from the recruitment of over 22,000 Anganwadi Workers and Helpers to drinking water projects, sugar mill revival, bridge construction and a new sports policy.
The decisions, taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, are expected to accelerate infrastructure development in the state and create further employment opportunities.
Over 22,000 Anganwadi Posts to Be Filled
One of the Cabinet’s key decisions is the approval of the Anganwadi Sevika and Sahayika Selection (Amendment) Guidelines, 2026, paving the way for the recruitment of more than 22,000 Anganwadi Sevikas and Sahayikas under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
The recruitment is expected to strengthen nutrition, child care and maternal health services while expanding the reach of welfare programmes across Bihar.
Drinking Water Projects Approved
To improve urban water infrastructure, the Cabinet sanctioned two drinking water projects under AMRUT 2.0 with a combined investment of over Rs 204 crore.
The approved projects include:
- Lakhisarai Water Supply Project – Rs 150.96 crore
- Kishanganj Water Supply Project – Rs 53.71 crore
The projects aim to ensure safe drinking water supply and strengthen urban infrastructure for future demand.
Two Major Bridges Approved
The Cabinet also cleared two bridge projects in Jamui district under the Road Construction Department.
These include:
- A Rs 93.82 crore high-level RCC bridge over the Kiul River on the Khaira-Sono Road (NH-333A).
- A Rs 55.96 crore high-level RCC bridge over the Suknar River near Mangobandar on the same highway.
The projects are expected to improve connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation in the region.
New Sports Policy Gets Green Signal
The Cabinet approved the Bihar Sports Policy 2026, aimed at promoting sports culture and identifying talent across the state.
The policy includes:
- Bihar State Sports Scholarship Scheme.
- Talent Identification Programme.
- Strengthening sports infrastructure.
- Enhanced support for emerging athletes.
The government said the policy seeks to provide greater opportunities for young sportspersons from the grassroots level.
Multiple Departments Covered
Besides the major announcements, the Cabinet approved proposals relating to agriculture, irrigation, urban development, cooperation, technical education, and law.
Several decisions were also taken to strengthen agricultural schemes, modernise engineering colleges and improve public infrastructure.
The approvals reflect the Bihar government’s focus on expanding welfare programmes, improving essential services, strengthening infrastructure and generating employment while supporting the state’s long-term development agenda.
