Pune: Transparency, inclusivity, and fairness in the hiring system can facilitate a more diverse workforce, strengthen community bonds, and promote social responsibility. This approach leads to a more equitable and inclusive workplace.
During the Transforming Education & Skill Summit (TESS), hosted by APAC News Network, held in Pune, Ankit Aggarwal, the Founder and CEO of Unstop talked about how Unstop is helping “enabled employers reach every student in India and hire the best, rather than from the selected institutions.”
A community engagement and hiring platform – Unstop
Community engagement hiring is an approach that involves actively involving the local community in the recruitment process for job positions within an organisation. This strategy entails collaborating with community partners, outreach to underrepresented groups, ensuring inclusivity, and offering skill development opportunities to individuals in the community.
It aims to create a more diverse and representative workforce while strengthening the organisation’s ties with the local community and promoting social responsibility.
Aggarwal questioned the concept of hiring from a selected list of institutes and wanted to open the door, leading to the creation of Unstop, which he considers a “gamified version of their normal recruitment cycle.”
Democratising engagement in hiring
Democratic engagement in hiring is an approach that prioritises transparency, inclusivity, and fairness in the recruitment process. It involves multiple stakeholders, such as diverse employees and subject matter experts, in decision-making to ensure that hiring decisions are made with input from a broader range of perspectives.
This approach emphasises the use of objective criteria, transparency in communication, and a commitment to minimising bias and discrimination in the hiring process. By implementing democratic engagement principles, organisations can create a more equitable and inclusive workplace, make better-informed hiring choices, and address diversity and inclusion goals effectively.
Student engagement model
A student engagement model is a framework used in education to assess and promote students’ active involvement and motivation in their learning experiences.
They often involve surveys and data analysis to measure and improve engagement in various aspects of academic and co-curricular activities, aiming to create more effective and meaningful learning environments for students to succeed academically and personally.
Aggarwal’s vision has been able to provide a greater chance for employers to find the right employees, and for students to find a better opportunity to hone their skills while learning on the job.
