New Delhi: Lalduhoma, the leader of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), has officially assumed office as the Chief Minister of Mizoram. The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Raj Bhavan complex in Aizawl, saw the induction of several other ZPM leaders as ministers.
Earlier this week, the ZPM Legislature Party elected Lalduhoma as its leader, with K Sapdanga chosen as the deputy leader. The Val Upa Council, an advisory body of the ZPM, convened on Wednesday to finalise the formation of the council of ministers.
The 12-member council of ministry includes Lalrinpuii as the sole woman minister, and seven of the ministers are first-time winners. Those who took the oath on Friday alongside Lalduhoma are K. Sapdanga, Vanlalhlana, C. Lalsawivunga, Lalthansanga, Dr. Vanlalthlana, P.C. Vanlalruata, Lalrinpuii, F. Rodingliana, B. Lalchhanzova, Prof. Lalnilawma, and Lalnghinglova Hmar, with varying ranks as cabinet ministers and ministers of state.
The ZPM, established as a political party in 2019, achieved a remarkable victory in the assembly elections by securing 27 seats, a significant increase from its 2018 tally of 8 seats. This victory resulted in the displacement of the Mizo National Front (MNF), led by the outgoing Chief Minister Zoramthanga, which managed to secure only 10 seats this time, compared to the 26 seats it won in the 2018 polls.
