Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has entered into an MoU with the United Kingdom’s World Smart Cities Forum (WSCF) to boost the Smart City Mission. The announcement was made at the World Economic Forum, Davos 2024, outlining plans for a tech-oriented and inclusive Smart City within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Under this collaboration, MMRDA will leverage WSCF’s expertise to establish a growth center focused on innovation, aiming to deliver economic growth and improved quality of life for residents in the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) Influence Area.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated, “Global best practices enforced by WSCF will contribute to the development of the smart growth center, catalysing economic growth through global investments and benefiting our nation’s economic welfare.”
The MoU outlines areas of cooperation, including the creation of a master plan to transform the MMR into an energy-independent region. The master plan will provide strategic directives for the deployment of eco-friendly technologies, ensuring the new smart city integrates sustainability and efficiency.
Additionally, the collaboration will focus on designing infrastructure based on tech-oriented smart home technology.
Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner, expressed, “The MoU fuels our drive to support the digital empowerment and sustainable future of the MMR. Our knowledge-sharing initiatives will enhance the region’s efficiency and resilience to climate change.”
