New Delhi: Alok Sharma IPS has been appointed as the Director General of the Special Protection Group (SPG). The SPG, responsible for safeguarding the Prime Minister and their convoy, operates under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Cabinet Secretariat of the Central Government. Sharma is a 1991 batch officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
The SPG is renowned globally for its professionalism and modern security practices. Sharma will assume leadership following the tenure of IPS Arun Kumar Sinha, who led the SPG from 2016 until his passing in September 2023. Sinha, a 1987 batch IPS officer from the Kerala cadre, held the distinction of being the SPG’s longest-serving chief.
