Bengaluru: Uber has inked a partnership deal with the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), aiming to broaden the scope of mobility services available on the Uber app. The collaboration with ONDC, a private non-profit organization established by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade of the Government of India, reinforces Uber’s commitment to providing safe, affordable, and dependable rides to all Indians.
The MoU was formalised in the presence of Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi during an event centred on ‘Building Population Scale Technology,’ where he engaged in a dialogue with Infosys Chairman Nandan Nilekani.
Expressing Uber’s commitment to catering to the mobility needs of all Indians, Uber India and South Asia President Prabhjeet Singh emphasised the alignment of their vision with ONDC’s goal of democratising digital commerce.
Khosrowshahi commended India’s Digital Public Infrastructure for its scale and ambition, noting the potential lessons for companies and governments worldwide. He also highlighted Uber’s interest in open-source technology stacks and the opportunities they present.
The ONDC’s Managing Director and CEO, T Koshy, hailed the partnership as a significant advancement, particularly in the Mobility, Transport, and Travel (MTT) sector. Koshy emphasised the collaborative nature of the Open Network, fostering innovation and diverse mobility solutions aimed at benefiting every Indian.
The memorandum signifies the first step in Uber’s endeavour to leverage ONDC’s platform to accelerate its ambition of becoming the go-to platform for daily mobility needs in India.
