Noida: During the second phase of polling on Friday, April 26, the Election Commission of India reported a 60.7% voter turnout by 5 PM. Different states saw varying turnout rates, with Manipur, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura recording over 70%, while Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra recording a turnout of 52.6%, 53%, and 53.5% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh, polling continued until 6 p.m. in several constituencies, including Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Mathura. By 5 p.m., Amroha had the highest turnout at 61.89%, followed by Meerut (55.49%), Baghpat (52.74%), Ghaziabad (48.21%), Gautam Buddh Nagar (51.66%), Bulandshahr (54.34%), Aligarh (54.36%), and Mathura (46.96%). These constituencies together have over 1.67 crore voters and accommodate 7,797 polling stations and 17,704 polling booths.
In the second phase, voting took place in several other states as well. Kerala had polling for all 20 seats, while Karnataka, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, and Bihar saw polling for some seats. Additionally, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Manipur, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir also had voting.
Madhya Pradesh’s Betul constituency the polling has been rescheduled from April 26 to the third phase on May 7 following the demise of Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Ashok Balawi.
