Kamrup: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced that the central government has approved the establishment of the first Indian Institute of Management (IIM) near Guwahati. Sarma took to social media platform X and wrote that this move places Guwahati among the few cities to house an IIT, AIIMS, National Law University, and now an IIM.
The IIM in Guwahati will be mentored by IIM Ahmedabad. “This will be a game changer for Assam, making the State an education hub in Eastern India and also help fulfill our economic aspirations. I envisage these premiere institutes to collaborate among themselves and industry to unleash the power of multidisciplinary education,” Sarma wrote in another post on X.
A plot has been finalised in the Marabhita area of Kamrup district for the new IIM by the Site Selection Committee of the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, chaired by Professor VK Paul.
IIM Ahmedabad’s Director and the Ministry of Education, in consultation with the Secretary of the Higher Education Department and the Government of Assam, will work together to form a Detailed Project Report (DPR), which will be submitted for further action.
