New Delhi: Starting June 3, 2024, motorists will encounter higher tolls on expressways due to the implementation of a nationwide toll increase. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased toll rates by an average of 5%.
The updated toll rates are due to changes in the wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation, keeping them consistent with the economy. It is a routine exercise under the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.Â
The annual revision was scheduled for April 1 but was postponed due to the Lok Sabha elections. There are approximately 855 toll plazas on the national highway network currently, out of which 675 are operated by public funds and 180 by concessionaires.
