Hyderabad: NMDC has inaugurated its new Research and Development (R&D) Centre in Patancheru, Hyderabad, to foster innovation in sustainable steel technology and mineral processing. In the last five years, the Navratna corporation has strategically invested over Rs. 150 crores in research and development, and Rs. Fifty crores will be spent on the construction of a new R&D center.
Located in Patancheru and spanning eight acres, this state-of-the-art facility was opened by NMDC’s CMD (Additional Charge), Amitava Mukherjee, along with senior officers and directors Dilip Kumar Mohanty, Vinay Kumar, and B. Vishwanath. This facility is a critical step in the digital transformation of India’s largest iron ore producer and will further solidify its dedication to Responsible Mining by establishing a sustainable ecosystem. This innovative setup will be critical in developing green steel-making technologies, supporting global efforts to reduce carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable practices in the steel industry.
The Centre, equipped with cutting-edge technology and infrastructure, specializes in mineralogical characterization, elemental analysis, bulk material handling and storage, mineral processing, and coal and coke characterization.
