New Delhi: The Passport Seva portal, which was temporarily down for technical maintenance, is now fully operational ahead of its scheduled restoration time. The portal, including the GPSP, was back online from 7:00 PM IST on September 1, 2024, according to an announcement on the official Passport Seva website.
Initially, the portal was scheduled to be down from August 29, 2024, at 8:00 PM IST until September 2, 2024, at 6:00 AM IST. This downtime was planned to allow for system maintenance, during which services were unavailable to citizens and various government authorities, including MEA, RPO, BOI, ISP, DoP, and Police.
However, the maintenance was completed ahead of schedule, and services were restored earlier than expected. The website also noted that appointments booked for August 30, 2024, would be rescheduled, with applicants being informed accordingly.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also issued a warning about fraudulent websites and mobile applications posing as official passport services. These platforms, often using domain names like *.org, *.in, and *.com, are collecting applicant data and charging additional fees for filling out forms and scheduling appointments. The MEA strongly advises applicants to avoid these fraudulent websites and use only the official website, or the mPassport Seva mobile app, available on Android and iOS.
