Bengaluru: Coal India Limited is diversifying its presence in the health sector by partnering with new hospitals to treat thalassemia and aplastic anemia. The move has come as part of the company’s CSR initiative Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three leading health organizations in Bengaluru. These include the HCG Foundation, the Aster DM Foundation, and the Bhagwan Mahaveer Memorial Jain Trust. As part of the MoU, the hospitals affiliated with these organizations will perform bone marrow transplants.
Earlier in 2017, Coal India Limited became the first PSU to introduce a CSR Project catering to curative treatment for thalassemia through bone marrow transplant surgeries. Since then, over 570 transplants have been performed. In addition, financial aid of Rs. 10 lakh has been provided to patients whose family income is less than Rs. 8 lakh per annum. The third phase of the initiative is underway with an investment of Rs. 30 crore for three years.
