New Delhi: Reliance Power has secured a 500 MW battery energy storage contract in an auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The contract is part of SECI’s efforts to enhance energy storage capabilities across India, with the auction held on September 11, 2024.
The project is part of a larger 1,000 MW standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) initiative, awarded under a build-own-operate (BOO) model for “on-demand” usage through a competitive bidding process. Reliance Power’s bid, set at Rs 3.81999 lakh per MW per month, marks one of the lowest tariffs recorded for BESS tenders at the 400 KV level in India.
The 500 MW capacity will be installed at the Fatehgarh (ATL) PS in Rajasthan, with the full project scheduled for commissioning within 24 months. The contract highlights Reliance Power’s growing focus on renewable energy and storage solutions.
The auction saw participation from multiple key industry players, signaling a competitive landscape for energy storage projects in India. The outcome of this auction is expected to drive further innovations and investment in the country’s renewable energy sector.
