Kozhikode: IIM Kozhikode and Kozhikode Municipal Corporation have teamed up to open a free reading lounge called ‘Arivu’ at the Municipal Corporation office. The lounge is part of Kozhikode’s celebration as India’s first UNESCO City of Literature, offering a space where anyone can come to read and explore a variety of books.
With over 500 books available, most of them in Malayalam, the lounge is designed to make reading more accessible and bring people together. The project follows an earlier initiative, ‘Gyan Pankh,’ which IIM Kozhikode launched at Calicut Airport this year.
Mayor Dr. Beena Philip and IIMK Director Prof. Debashis Chatterjee both attended the launch. They highlighted the importance of creating spaces like this to build a community of readers. In addition, the lounge promotes healthy reading habits with a mural of prominent local authors.
Open during the Municipal Corporation’s working hours, ‘Arivu’ will expand its collection to 750 books soon, aiming to offer something for everyone. The goal is to celebrate Kozhikode’s literary heritage and make reading a part of everyday life for residents.
