New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has partnered with IIT Roorkee to set up three Centres of Excellence (CoEs) focusing on cybersecurity, IoT applications, and ultra-high-speed (UHS) networks. The initiative is backed by a Rs 20.73 crore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contribution.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at Power Grid’s corporate office in the presence of senior officials, including Power Grid CMD RK Tyagi, Director (Personnel) Dr. Yatindra Dwivedi, Director (Operations) Naveen Srivastava, and IIT Roorkee representatives such as Director Prof. KK Pant and Head of the Institute Computer Centre Prof. Sateesh Kumar Peddoju.
The CoEs, to be established at IIT Roorkee’s Institute Computer Centre, will include a Command-and-Control Centre for managing campus UHS networks, an IoT Research and Application Centre, and a dedicated laboratory for cybersecurity research. These facilities will also host mobile security hackathons and awareness programs. The initiative aims to support nearly 11,000 students on campus and foster advanced research capabilities in critical technology areas.
IIT Roorkee, one of India’s oldest engineering institutions, has been a hub for innovation and higher education since its establishment in 1847. This collaboration with Power Grid is expected to enhance the institute’s research infrastructure while addressing emerging challenges in technology and cybersecurity.
Power Grid’s CSR initiatives, including this partnership, align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on economic and social development through technology-driven projects. By fostering research and development in cutting-edge fields, the initiative seeks to create a broader impact beyond IIT Roorkee’s campus, contributing to India’s technological advancement.
The collaboration underscores the growing trend of public sector undertakings (PSUs) leveraging CSR funding to drive innovation and support educational institutions in addressing critical technological needs.
