New Delhi: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and NTPC Limited have signed three Memorandum of Agreement (MoAs) to support education, livelihoods, and healthcare in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) under NTPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The agreements, worth Rs 1.10 crore, aim to enhance employment opportunities, promote traditional crafts, and improve healthcare access in remote areas.
Key Projects Under the Agreement
The MoUs were exchanged between BTC Chief Pramod Boro and NTPC General Manager (O&M) Debabrata Kar in the presence of senior officials. The projects include:
Bodoland Youth Employment Mission through Space Education Lab: BTC’s Department of Education will implement this initiative, backed by Rs 60 lakh from NTPC, to encourage scientific learning and career opportunities in space science.
Promotion of Eri Silk and Handloom in Raimona National Park: With Rs 30 lakh from NTPC, the Directorate of Sericulture, BTC, will work on preserving traditional weaving crafts and boosting employment for local artisans, particularly women.
Boat Ambulance Service at Khutabagra: The Directorate of Health Services, BTC, will introduce a boat ambulance, supported by Rs 20 lakh from NTPC, to provide medical aid in remote riverine areas.
Focus on Community Development
BTC Chief Pramod Boro acknowledged NTPC’s CSR efforts in the region, emphasizing the impact on education, skill development, and healthcare. NTPC’s Debabrata Kar reiterated the company’s commitment to community welfare, stating that these projects align with NTPC’s ‘People Before Power’ philosophy. The agreements mark another step in BTC and NTPC’s collaboration to enhance infrastructure and services in BTR, addressing key socio-economic challenges in the region.
