Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police recruitment process for over 60,000 constable posts has underscored the growing role of technology in large-scale public sector hiring, reducing the potential for manual errors and manipulation.
According to Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna, who spoke during the appointment letter distribution event held in Lucknow on 15 June, the recruitment drive received nearly 48.17 lakh applications, making it one of the largest police recruitment exercises in the country.
To ensure the process remained tamper-proof, the state used a combination of facial recognition, biometric verification, and real-time online monitoring systems across 1,174 centres. The written exams were conducted in 10 shifts under constant CCTV surveillance. These tools helped minimise the chances of impersonation and other forms of malpractice often associated with mass recruitments.
“Each phase followed a strict standard operating procedure,” said the DGP. “Coordination was maintained at every level district officials, the recruitment board, and the chief secretary’s office.”
Out of the total 60,244 recruits, more than 12,000 are women, indicating a push toward inclusive hiring. The DGP highlighted that the system was designed to minimise discretion and reduce room for subjective decisions in the selection process.
Training for the selected candidates is scheduled to begin on 20 June at 112 centres across the state. Apart from basic policing skills, the curriculum will include digital literacy, communication skills, and gender-sensitive policing.
