Kolkata: All state co-operative banks across West Bengal are starting cyber forensic audits to tackle the growing menace of cybercrimes.
To date, cybersecurity in co-operative banks has not been at the same level as PSU banks and private banks.
As a result, customers in co-operative banks have lost Rs 35 crore alone last year through cyber frauds.
In addition, in 43 per cent of cases, customer ATM card numbers have been stolen from the store’s customer information.
The forensic audits will act as mitigants against customer data theft and digital ‘robbers’ entering the bank sites.
In addition, the forensic audit can easily identify the perpetrator if any customer becomes the victim of cyber fraud.
The recovery mechanism also improves by 80 per cent as a result. The state police and CID cyber experts are advising the co-operative banks on this.
There will be a security perimeter created for both urban and rural co-operative banks under the supervision of CERT-IN. Even the security guidelines will be framed as per CERT-IN.
A special panel is being formed to conduct the cyber forensic audits. The co-operative banks would have five-year contracts with this panel that will be renewable.
This panel will investigate any attempt to hack from any fake IP address and track them subsequently.
