Dispur: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered the immediate transfer and appointment of five IAS officers as District Election Officers (DEOs) in Assam ahead of the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026.
The move is aimed at ensuring smooth and impartial conduct of the electoral process across key districts.
According to the directive, the state government has been instructed to implement the transfers without delay and submit a compliance report confirming that the officers have assumed charge by 3 pm on March 17, 2026. The Commission also specified that officers transferred out of these roles must not be assigned to any election-related duties until the completion of the election process.
The order was issued by Rajiv Ranjan, Secretary of the ECI, as part of broader preparations to strengthen administrative oversight during the elections.
The following IAS officers have been appointed as DEOs:
IAS Dr. P. Uday Praveen (2016 batch) – Kokrajhar
IAS Srishti Singh (2021 batch) – Majuli
IAS Kimnei Changsan (2014 batch) – Baksa
IAS Madhusudan Nath (2014 batch) – Chirang
IAS Jay Vikash (2021 batch) – Udalguri
The reshuffle reflects the Commission’s continued focus on maintaining administrative neutrality and efficiency in poll-bound states.
