New Delhi: The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is set to enhance healthcare infrastructure with the establishment of nine new hospitals across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, along with 17 dispensaries in Gujarat, under the ESI scheme.
This decision was made during the 192nd Meeting of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation, chaired by Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Bhupender Yadav. Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameswar Teli, participated as the Vice-Chairman in the meeting.
The ESIC Corporation, responding to inflationary pressures, agreed to increase the basic rate of Permanent Disablement Benefit (PDB) and Dependant’s Benefit (DB). The PDB, paid at 90% of wages based on the extent of loss of earning capacity certified by a Medical Board, will undergo adjustments. Similarly, the DB, provided at 90% of the wage in monthly payments to dependants of deceased insured individuals due to employment injury or occupational hazards, will see revised rates.
Additionally, the ESIC revealed plans to expand the bed capacity in Bibvewadi, Maharashtra, and Rourkela, Odisha, increasing from 100 to 120 and 75 to 150 beds, respectively. The Corporation aims to streamline super-speciality treatments by transforming the ESIC Hospital in Andheri, Mumbai, into a multi-speciality facility with a 500-bed capacity.
The move is part of a broader initiative to modernise healthcare facilities and provide insured persons and their dependents with advanced treatment options.
