New Delhi: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Iron and Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC) to provide skill development training to its contractual employees. The partnership aims to establish a system of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) by conducting National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF)-based skill development programs for contractual employees across the organization. This will be followed by assessments and certification by IISSSC.
According to NALCO, the initiative is in line with the Skill India Mission as it will enable the company to enhance the competency level of its workforce as per the set industry standards. Speaking about the significance of the partnership, Chief Managing Director of NALCO, Sridhar Patra said that the benefits of skill training will go a long way in ensuring the safe and sustained operation of the organization.
Indian Iron and Steel Sector Skill Council was established under the National Skill Development Policy 2009 as mandated by the government of India. It was constituted to identify skill development needs, maintain skill inventory, and develop vocational training courses to bridge the skill gap among the Indian workforce. In addition, it is also tasked with training the trainers through the development of IT-enabled Labour Management Information System (LMIS).
