New Delhi: Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh has called on state governments to establish BioE3 Cells as part of India’s biotechnology revolution, aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Speaking at the Centre-State Partnership Conclave on the BioE3 Policy held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, Dr. Singh emphasized the importance of Centre-State cooperation in advancing India’s bioeconomy and strengthening the nation’s position in the global biotechnology landscape.
Utilizing Regional Strengths for Biomanufacturing
Dr. Singh highlighted the critical role of regional resources in boosting India’s biomanufacturing sector. He urged states to capitalize on their unique strengths, including marine resources, Himalayan biodiversity, and other bio-resources, to drive innovation in biotechnology and sustainable development. According to Dr. Singh, the BioE3 Policy will help integrate state-specific bioeconomy strategies with national priorities, fostering a holistic approach to biotech growth.
Establishing BioE3 Cells
To facilitate the successful implementation of the BioE3 Policy, Dr. Singh urged states to set up BioE3 Cells in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). These cells will serve as interconnected knowledge hubs, enabling seamless coordination between state and national stakeholders.
The BioE3 Cells will focus on:
Knowledge exchange between experts, researchers, and policymakers.
Policy coordination to align state-level initiatives with national biotech goals.
Technology adoption for advancing research and development in biomanufacturing.
Launch of Booklet on BioE3 Cells
During the conclave, Dr. Singh also released a booklet on the Establishment of BioE3 Cells for Biomanufacturing Implementation. The booklet provides a roadmap for Centre-State partnerships in driving biotech innovations. He noted that a nationwide network of BioE3 Cells would enable the seamless integration of emerging technologies, advanced research, and sustainable biomanufacturing practices, contributing to India’s self-reliance in biotechnology.
