Kolkata: The West Bengal Panchayat Department is launching a new app that will enable citizens to download all certificates on their mobiles instead of physically visiting Panchayat offices.
As per the decisions by the West Bengal Panchayat Department, any citizen can apply for all six types of certificates, including character and distance certificates. This will be issued within seven days and will be downloadable on mobiles. Citizens can complain in case the seven-day deadline is overrun.
According to Pradeep Majumdar, State Panchayat Minister, all functions of the West Bengal Panchayat department are gradually moving online. Each Panchayat is also being converted to a Smart Panchayat.
The Smart Panchayats will include not just digitization and automation of certificates but even the payment of taxes online, like what is prevalent in the municipalities.
Different Panchayat Samitis and District Parishads have guest houses and homestays, which can also now be booked online. Additional focus will be given on solid waste management.
Panchayat employees are being trained accordingly. There will be help desks to support citizens who are not tech savvy.
