Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has launched the Didir Doot 2.0 app for voter verification across 80,453 booths.
The Didir Doot app, originally launched in 2021, will see its upgraded version released after Poila Baisakh (15 April) and will continue to function until the Election Commission completes the final voter list revision, expected around December or January.
By the end of the current week, the training session on the app will be completed in about 100 constituencies out of 294 Assembly seats. An educational video on raising a discrepancy, addition or deletion of names via the app is being shown at the training.
A Booth Level Agent (BLA -1) will monitor the process at the district level. For each booth in the state, a BLA -2 will identify all voters in that booth and modify the list according to the status of the voters.
The Didir Doot 2.0 app is designed as an interactive platform and will enable real-time voter verification and geo-tagged updates the ground level agents.
The app also includes a Reddit-like feature for user interaction and provides updates, photos and videos on voter list verification.
The app will instruct all BLA-2 on the number of households they have to visit for the day once they log in.
These people will be armed with the previous electoral roll and the updated roll published by the Election Commission. Most importantly, they will collect information on each voter residing in the booth assigned to them.
Further, there are scrutiny committees at the local, block and district levels. At each level, an appointed person will collect the information on the residential status of the voters or their expiry.
Subsequently, the BLA-2 will conduct door-to-door surveys, speak with family members and neighbours on the whereabouts of a particular voter at the last known address.
The first such door-to-door survey was conducted in Murshidabad. This was particularly relevant as earlier, nearly 6500-7000 voters from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh were identified with the same voter card number as voters from Murshidabad.
While special camps are organized sporadically by the Election Commission, this Didir Doot 2.0 app will streamline the entire verification process.
