Ropar: In a move to expand interdisciplinary learning in emerging technologies, Shoolini University and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly launch a Minor Programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI+X).
The initiative is aimed at integrating AI education with domain-specific fields such as agriculture, biotechnology, and management.
MoU Signed to Establish Cyber Physical System Lab
The agreement was formalised between Prem Kumar Khosla, Chancellor of Shoolini University, and Dr Pushpendra P. Singh, Dean of Research and Development and Project Director at IIT Ropar’s iHub – AWaDH (Agriculture and Water Technology Development Hub). As part of the collaboration, the institutions will set up a Cyber Physical System Laboratory (CPS Lab) to promote cross-disciplinary research and practical skill development.
AI+X Programme to Offer 15-Credit Minor Certification
The joint programme, titled AI+X, will offer a 15-credit minor certification co-issued by both institutions. The “X” in the title indicates the flexibility to combine AI training with specialised disciplines. This model is intended to support real-world, application-based learning, with a focus on sectors that require technology-driven solutions.
Industry-Relevant Research and Training for Students
Designed to function as both a research and skill development hub, the CPS Lab will support translational research in areas with societal relevance. It will also offer hands-on experience to students from class 11 through postgraduate levels in domains such as generative AI, AR/VR, robotics, data science, and sensory technologies.
By targeting both foundational and applied research, the initiative seeks to bridge academic research with practical industry needs. The lab and associated programmes aim to create a pathway for students to engage in sector-specific challenges using AI and related technologies.
