New Delhi: The India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) has appointed Debmalya Sen as its new president, effective immediately. Sen takes over at a time when India is accelerating efforts in energy storage, green hydrogen, and e-mobility to meet its clean energy goals.
Bringing Industry Expertise to IESA
With extensive experience in conventional and renewable energy, Sen has worked on key policies shaping India’s energy transition. Before joining IESA, he led advanced energy solutions at the World Economic Forum, where he focused on energy storage, policy frameworks, and green hydrogen. He has also collaborated with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) on energy storage policies.
His appointment comes as India pushes for large-scale adoption of battery storage and clean energy solutions to support its net-zero targets. “Debmalya’s expertise in energy storage, grid modernization, and green hydrogen will strengthen IESA’s efforts to expand clean energy deployment,” said Vinayak Walimbe, Managing Director of Customized Energy Solutions India Pvt Ltd, which founded IESA in 2012.
Key Focus Areas Under Sen’s Leadership
As president, Sen will oversee IESA’s strategic initiatives, policy advocacy, and industry collaborations. The alliance is involved in several projects to support India’s clean energy transition, including:
- India Battery Manufacturing & Supply Chain Council (IBMSCC): Working on developing the battery supply chain for upcoming gigafactories in India.
- India Electric Mobility Council (IEMC): Focusing on R&D, manufacturing, and adoption of e-mobility technologies.
- India Green Hydrogen Council (IGHC): Exploring R&D and manufacturing potential for green hydrogen technologies.
- Stationary Energy Storage India (SESI) Council: Developing roadmaps for energy storage applications in India.
- Reuse & Recycling Council (IRRC): Promoting global best practices for battery recycling and reuse.
- IESA Startup and Innovation Initiative: Supporting startups in energy storage, green hydrogen, and e-mobility.
On his appointment, Sen said he aims to drive innovation, policy support, and industry collaboration to accelerate India’s clean energy sector.
