Mumbai: TCS has updated its MasterCraft platform by embedding Generative AI and Agentic AI tools to support the modernisation of legacy systems. These systems, often built over decades with limited documentation, remain a significant hurdle for enterprises shifting to cloud-based and modern digital architectures.
The upgraded version of MasterCraft focuses on automating the extraction of business logic and reducing the manual workload typically associated with legacy system upgrades.
According to TCS, the tool also supports automated code conversion and documentation, which could help create a reusable knowledge repository for future application development and maintenance.
Designed to cut cost and delivery time
TCS claims the enhanced MasterCraft platform can deliver cost savings of over 70% and speed up project delivery by two times, compared to conventional manual approaches. However, these figures are based on internal metrics and have not been independently verified.
The tool includes an integrated DevSecOps pipeline for continuous delivery and allows for human oversight through human-in-the-loop mechanisms, an approach that ensures AI-driven processes remain accountable.
Addressing the legacy infrastructure challenge
Legacy applications continue to dominate IT landscapes across sectors, creating long-term technical debt for organisations. Many of these systems are tied to business-critical operations but are difficult and expensive to update.
Ashvini Saxena, VP and Head of the TCS Components Engineering Group, noted that enterprises often deal with varied technologies accumulated over time. “We have leveraged GenAI and Agentic AI capabilities for the extraction of business knowledge and conversion to augment this capability,” Saxena said, explaining the tool’s intended role in supporting maintainable and well-documented application environments.
