New Delhi: India and Malaysia have agreed to significantly deepen cooperation in the semiconductor sector as Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his official visit to Malaysia from 7-8 February 2026, reinforcing the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During bilateral talks in Putrajaya, PM Modi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged the strategic importance of semiconductors to the global technology ecosystem and underlined the need to strengthen the bilateral semiconductor value chain.
The leaders emphasised closer collaboration in areas such as technological innovation, workforce and talent development, and supply chain resilience to build a competitive and trusted ecosystem.
They welcomed ongoing cooperation initiatives, including partnerships between IIT-Madras Global and the Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia, as well as collaboration between the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) and the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA).
These efforts are expected to support India’s ambitions to expand its domestic semiconductor manufacturing and Malaysia’s established role in the global chip supply chain.
Beyond semiconductors, the two sides agreed to expand trade and investment across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, digital economy, renewable energy, fintech and artificial intelligence.
The leaders also highlighted the importance of the Malaysia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement and the ongoing review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement to enhance trade facilitation.
