Hyderabad: Amazon has appointed Samir Kumar as its new Country Manager for India, effective October 1. Kumar, a long-time Amazon executive, will succeed Manish Tiwary, who is stepping down to pursue external opportunities.
Kumar, who has been with Amazon since 1999, will oversee the company’s Indian consumer operations while maintaining his leadership roles in the Middle East, South Africa, and Turkey. He was part of the team that launched Amazon India in 2013.
The leadership transition comes as Amazon India faces a highly competitive e-commerce landscape. As part of this change, key members of the India leadership team, including Saurabh Srivastava (Categories), Harsh Goyal (Everyday Essentials), Amit Nanda (Marketplace), and Aastha Jain (Growth Initiatives), will report to Kumar. Kishore Thota (Emerging Markets Shopping Experience) will report to Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President for Emerging Markets.
In a statement, Agarwal highlighted the importance of the Indian market and acknowledged Tiwary’s contributions in building Amazon. in. Kumar’s experience, particularly in emerging markets, is expected to play a critical role in steering Amazon’s India strategy amid growing competition from local and global players.
