New Delhi: Taking a step towards environmental sustainability, the Central Railway has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shakti Plastic Industries to reduce plastic waste at railway stations within the Mumbai division. The partnership will focus on implementing waste management solutions at selected stations including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
The objectives of the MoU are:
To promote and improve waste management practices at Central Railway stations and coaching depots.
To develop comprehensive recycling and waste management practices.
To assess the feasibility of these practices for long-term adoption across the Indian Railways network.
As per the terms of the agreement signed, Central Railway will provide the necessary space and permissions for Shakti Plastic to collect, segregate, and recycle plastic waste found at CSMT railway station and from the Wadibunder depot trains. On the other hand, Shakti Plastic will manufacture recycled benches and dustbins from the plastic waste collected and provide it to CSMT to enhance the infrastructure of the station. This strategic collaboration is in line with the broader policies catering to waste reduction and recycling.
