Gandhinagar: Gujarat has launched a new electronics component manufacturing policy aimed at attracting investments and reducing dependency on imports in the sector.
The policy, which will be implemented by the Gujarat State Electronics Mission, aligns with the central government’s electronics manufacturing strategy and includes provisions for dual incentives from both the Centre and State.
The Gujarat Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy 2025 (GECMS-2025) proposes financial support of up to Rs 12.5 crore for Gujarat-based institutions to establish centres of excellence, finishing schools, or applied research labs. The state government intends to use this funding to address talent shortages and promote innovation in electronics design and manufacturing.
This funding is only available to institutions within Gujarat and does not apply to those already receiving assistance under the earlier Gujarat Electronics Policy 2022-28. Units opting for GECMS-2025 will not be eligible under the previous policy.
The state policy is synchronised with the duration of the Central Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). Projects that are approved and supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will qualify for full central assistance.
However, when set up in Gujarat, these projects will automatically become eligible for a matching state grant, effectively doubling the support.
Applications under GECMS-2025 must be submitted by 31 July, and the state has assured disbursal of its share of incentives within 30 days of the Centre releasing funds.
The policy aims to support manufacturing in key component areas such as:
Multi-layer and HDI printed circuit boards
Lithium-ion battery cells
Surface mount device (SMD) passive components
Display and camera modules
Supporting machinery for electronics production
The Gujarat government’s policy is designed to strengthen upstream industries connected to the state’s growing semiconductor ecosystem.
