New Delhi: India recorded its highest-ever electronics exports at $47 billion (around Rs 4.15 lakh crore) in 2025, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said, underscoring the sector’s rapid expansion over the past decade.
Of the total exports, nearly $30 billion came from smartphone shipments supported by the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
The minister noted that electronics exports have grown eleven-fold since 2014-15, when the BJP-led government came to power, making electronics India’s third-largest export category.
The sector has emerged as a major employment generator, creating around 25 lakh jobs with strong participation from women, increased opportunities for MSMEs, and sustained skilling prospects for the youth.
Over the last 11 years, electronics production has expanded six times, while exports have grown eight times. Production rose from Rs 1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to Rs 11.3 lakh crore in 2024-25, while exports increased from Rs 0.38 lakh crore to Rs 3.3 lakh crore.
India is now the world’s second-largest mobile manufacturing hub, with 99.2 per cent of handsets sold domestically made in India.
The government is now shifting focus towards strengthening component and sub-assembly manufacturing to deepen the electronics value chain.
