Bengaluru: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) aims to promote human space flight activities and construct space stations, Chairman Sreedhara Panicker Somanath recently revealed.
“We have announced Space Act Reforms in 2020 and there is a new Indian Space Policy 2023 by the government which has enabled private companies and institutions to come and work together,” Somnath said, rejoicing at the success of the Chandrayaan Mission.
The 2020 reforms allow Non-Governmental Entities (NGEs) to participate in the space ecosystem, and the Indian Space Policy 2023 provides regulatory certainty and was developed to implement the government’s reform vision.
The government has also put forth a “new vision” regarding the next steps of the space sector, Somnath revealed, adding that institutional works are currently ongoing. “And all of that is very exciting. We can explore human space flight activities, moon and other planets, and build space stations,” he added.
Creating jobs, industries and startups is another aim of the organisation, which will help the economic potential of the space sector, he said.
