New Delhi: To offer effective last-mile transportation from surrounding metro stations and bus stops to various campus facilities, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi has announced the introduction of electric buses or eBuses. By making campus travel faster and more pleasant, this service seeks to address issues with lengthy walks, pricey autorickshaws, and the lack of transportation options for patients and their attendants.
Authorities state that the goal of this e-bus service is to make patient care and connectivity better while also making campus transit more convenient. Only AIIMS patients and their caregivers will have access to these 14-seater eBuses, which have contemporary amenities like air conditioning, a low floor for energy-efficient entry, and wheelchair accessibility. For the convenience of the patients, the e-buses will have dedicated stops with shelter and call buttons. CCTV cameras and GPS tracking systems will be installed on these buses to improve security and enable real-time monitoring.
In addition to providing real-time bus tracking and customer service feedback, the UPI/AIIMS Smart Card will be used for fare collection. Authorities claim that this will reduce noise pollution, help reduce environmental pollutants and carbon footprints and ease traffic congestion.
