New Delhi: The FortiGuard Labs Threat Research team recently discovered a number of social media posts discussing a fraud campaign targeting India Post users. India Post is the country’s government-run postal system. It’s one of the biggest postal systems in the world, with a huge network of over 150,000 post offices nationwide. It’s a division of the Ministry of Communications.
Hackers are trying to trick iPhone users into thinking they are from India Post with smishing attacks. An iMessage is sent to iPhone users, falsely asserting that a package is awaiting at an India Post warehouse. This is the method of the scam.
According to public reports, the Smishing Triad, a threat actor with a base in China, is suspected of being behind this campaign. This gang has previously targeted the US, UK, EU, UAE, KSA, and most recently, Pakistan, among other regions.
